Viera Moss is a multi-media painter based in California. A self-taught artist, she has spent the last 10 years learning the craft of portrait painting. In the last decade, she has exhibited in group and solo shows and staged DIY art installations around her community.
After starting hormone replacement therapy in 2022, she began to paint narrative self-portraits, as well as painting other Trans and Gender Non-conforming individuals in her community. Her first solo show, “Puberty,” in 2023, was a retrospective on her first year of hormone therapy, documenting the mental and physical changes that occurred.
Currently, Viera has continued to document her transition. She now focuses on how transitioning has influenced her fraught journey to personhood. Her portraits evoke feelings of fear, resentment, loneliness, abandonment, joy, reverence, and individuality.
